HOW TO PLAY:
Each student gets a Toothy mat and dry erase marker. Students will take turns choosing a card. The teacher, aide, or peer will read the prompt. Each student who is playing the game will answer the question and respond verbally, then write the answer on their Toothy mat or dry erase board. When all who are playing have answered the question, they compare their answers and then turn the card over to check to see if their answer is correct. Those who have a correct answer get to draw a tooth in Toothy’s mouth on their mat. If the student’s answer is incorrect, they do not draw a tooth and those who got the answer correct must explain how they got to the correct answer. Then the next student draws the next card and the process is repeated. The game is over once all the cards have been answered. The student with the most teeth in Toothy’s mouth is the winner of the game.

I really liked this resource. Unlike most of my Toothy resources, these need to be teacher led. My kids loved them, but I wasn’t really able to use them as a center like I imagined. However, they hit all of my ESL standards and they are able to be used across multiple grade levels.

  31. Allie

We are TOOTH-ALLY OBSESSED! I started the LETRS training and was looking for a great resource that I can use in small group/tutoring settings to practice phonological awareness skills. This resource is IT!!! It offers 3 levels of phonological awareness skills, so you can differentiate based on what your class needs. There is a bit of prep-work on the front end (printing, copying double-sided, laminating, cutting). But once you do all of that and figure out your storage situation, it is the EASIEST resource to use on the fly. This set is great because it gives you prompts to guide your students with each card. FABULOUS!

  32. Carissa E.

Great activity cards to help students develop their phonemic awareness in a variety of ways. Many task cards help keep the activities exciting for students.

  33. Joleen J.

These have been great for my students during centers and small group instruction. My students love them because they think it’s a game and I love them because they are learning and don’t realize it. 🙂 Thank you for creating!

  51. Madeline C.

  52. Cindy C.

As a new SPED 3rd-5th grade Learning Support classroom it has been a new twist for me after a virtual world as a new 1st-grade Inclusion teacher. We enjoyed using these last year and I knew I had to add to my collection. This year I am again in a new SPED position and grade, so I continue to look to find materials that were engaging and effective for my diverse learners. I continue to look for resources that would engage, that would inspire independent motivation and efficiently use our time. I needed materials that were engaging and effective for my diverse learners. These will help boost my students’ interest and support them in many ways. Thank you.

  53. JoLynn H.

I like how there are 3 levels- early, basic, and advanced. This is perfect for small groups. I like the pictures and the activities. This is such a great resource! Easy to make and easy to use!! Thank you for sharing!

  55. Katherine S.

Perfect addition to my Toothy collection! Aligns so well with our Phonemic Awareness curriculum. Works well for small group instruction.

  56. Learning with lail

This resource has been a life saver!!! It goes perfectly with what we are learning with SoR and my OG training. I love that there are teacher instruction cards so it tells my assistant or high school volunteers exactly what to do! As always, a well thought out, well planned and useful resource! Thank you!!!

  57. Emily Z.

I am obsessed with Toothy! My school just started implementing Heggerty, but while it’s a quick phonological awareness lesson that helped my students grow, it didn’t keep all of my students engaged. I passed out Toothy mats and immediately my students fell in love! Those who may have been shy to answer verbally with Heggerty had no problem writing their answers on the mat. For my ESOL students, the pictures on the cards helped them tremendously. We loved it so much, I bought the ELA and and Math for Kindergarten!

  58. Fawn Wessel

My students love all the toothy activities. I love how you play them all the same. We have been using Heggerty and this fits in perfect with it. It serves as a great review, but also can be done quickly if need be.

  59. Reams of Learning

My students love, love, love Toothy activities! As others have said, you can project these and work on them whole group. I also have had students use them on the board in small groups. Excellent resource!

  60. Jailyn Weier

These have been a life saver with my intervention groups each week. I love to pull these with small group but I have also started using them during whole group, too! They are easy to use & I love that they have the directions on the back of each card to help my educational associates know exactly how the cards are meant to be used.

  61. Tiffany Warren

I own all the Toothy games so I was so excited when this came out. It went along with what we were learning about the science of reading. The assessment was such a great tool to learn about where to start with my students! I didn’t have to print everything right away. I could just print what I needed as we went along.

  62. Brenda W.

The kiddoes always enjoy Toothy, and this one ranks right up there. Our new reading program focuses on phonological awareness, so this one is a double win!

  63. Lena L.

My students LOVE Toothy! They beg for a game whenever they’ve learned a new skill, and cheer when they see it assigned! I love that it allows each student to work at their own pace and it’s self checking. One of the best products I purchased from TPT!

  64. Tanya M.

My students love Toothy! I found that I can also put the cards into a slideshow to practice whole group. Now I have resources for both small and whole group.
